About the Poles

Q: Tell me more about the poles and how we would assemble it.  How does the canopy attach to the poles?
A: The poles come fully assembled, with the connector in place on each pole topped with a finial . The connector is either a strong clip or a keyring-type ring. We use the clip with the lace canopy; it grabs onto a seam at each corner for a tight grip. We use the ring with the quilted canopy; it fits onto the corded loops at the four corners. So there is no assembly.

Q: What are the poles made of? How heavy are they?

A: The poles are made of wood (white or white and gold-colored) or metal (gold-colored. They each weigh about 3 1/2 pounds. They are very attractive as is or you may wish to decorate them partially with flowers or vines.

Q: What is the preferred pole height?

A:  7 feet seems to suit most people. It's tall enough so that everyone fits underneath it but not so tall as to be unwieldy. The finial adds to the total length.

Q: How are the poles supported during the ceremony?
A: The poles rest on the ground during the ceremony. We attach a rubber caster to the bottom so it doesn't slip. For practice, you just need to clip each pole to the canopy and get 4 people together to support them. You would want to make sure each person knows where to stand so that the chuppa top is taut and each pole is vertical.  We also supply directions for making the poles free-standing.

About the Canopy

Q:  What size are the chuppa canopies?
A:
The standard size for the quilted canopy is 3 feet by 5 feet. However, each canopy is custom made so the dimensions may be changed.
The lace chuppa is typically 5 feet by 6 feet but also may be custom-sized.

Q: What size are the borders?

A: The quilted chuppa has a 6 inch border on all four sides that is decorated with a quilting pattern.
The lace chuppas have 11 inch overhangs on two sides. You can see sample edging styles at http://findajp.com/chuppas.htm#lace.

Q: Is a frame needed to support the weight of the canopy?

A: No, we've never used a frame for either the lace or quilted canopy. The four pole-holders need to be reminded to keep the poles vertical when supporting them. Where they stand determines if the canopy is taut or not. None of the canopies is heavy so it will not sag if the poles are placed properly.

General Questions

Q: How much is shipping?
A: Shipping by Fedex typically costs $15 to $30 (depending on distance) for the poles and about $5 to $20 for the chuppa canopies.

Q: How much time before the wedding should we order?

A: It's always wise to order as much in advance as possible. Two months to make the quilted chuppa canopy is not too much time -- we work with you on fabric and thread color until it's perfect. The poles and lace canopy will normally be done in 2 to 3 weeks, but don't wait -- we do take a vacation now and then and sometimes an emergency can cause a delay.
